DONETs

Development of DONETs

Strategic direction and future development of discipline-based clinical research networks.

Further development and new directions of DONETs

In the future, CZECRIN plans to expand the network of DONETs to other areas that reflect the needs of clinical practice and strategic priorities of the Czech healthcare system.
The upcoming sectoral networks will focus on:

  • hemato-oncology,
  • palliative medicine,
  • psychiatry,
  • diabetes,
  • gastroenterology,
  • autoimmune diseases,
  • surgery,
  • and cardiology (expansion of existing capacities).

In this way, CZECRIN systematically develops a national research infrastructure that connects excellent clinical and academic sites, strengthens professional collaboration and enables Czech research results to become part of the European area to benefit patients.

DONETs at a glance

DONETs connect clinical and research sites across the Czech Republic, identify real-world topics, validate research proposals and support independent clinical trials with national and international reach.

They are not only a professional platform but also a strategic tool for the development of academic clinical research. They ensure that clinical questions from practice grow into feasible studies with impact on the quality and efficiency of patient care – in line with European standards and the needs of the Czech healthcare system.

We are currently supporting disciplinary clinical research in strategic areas:

Impact and benefits of DONETs

DONETs represent a proven model of clinical research support that has proven its effectiveness in both national and international contexts.
Thanks to their activities in the Czech Republic:

  • the number and quality of independent academic projects has increased,
  • have established standardised processes for the design, validation and implementation of clinical trials,
  • Strengthened interdisciplinary and international cooperation,
  • and expanded the involvement of Czech research teams in the European Research Area.

The evaluation of the national infrastructure confirmed that the DONETs concept allows for efficient use of professional capacity and delivers measurable results in terms of research quality, collaboration and clinical relevance.

The DONETs model has thus become a stable pillar of the system of clinical research initiated by academic research institutions in the Czech Republic – it links scientific excellence with the real needs of clinical practice and supports the transfer of clinical research results into patient care.

DONETs and the Health 2030 Strategy

DONETs directly contribute to the goals of the Health 2030 Strategy, which emphasises the development of modern, high-quality and sustainable healthcare based on data, innovation and collaboration. Through their activities, DONETs support the key strategic priorities of this national concept:

  • Increasing the quality and availability of clinical research in the Czech Republic,
  • Strengthening health research capacity by linking academic and clinical sites,
  • development of interdisciplinary and international cooperation,
  • and the use of data and innovation to improve the quality of healthcare and transfer scientific knowledge into practice.

DONETs fulfil these objectives through a coordinated, methodically led and professionally managed system of support for clinical research across disciplines.
They represent the practical implementation of a strategic framework that contributes to the transformation of Czech healthcare towardsevidence-based medicine.
