CONSCIOUS II

Curriculum Development of Human Clinical Trials for the Next Generation Biomedical PhD Students and Early Career Researchers in Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Curriculum Development of Human Clinical Trials for the Next Generation Biomedical PhD Students and Early Career Researchers in Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Project Number 2021-1-CZ01-KA220-HED-000023177

CONSCIOUS II is a project aimed at training postgraduate students and early career researchers in clinical trials. It is in this area that there is a certain weakness in the educational process. The previous CONSCIOUS project aimed to partially fill this gap, however, this project was oriented towards undergraduate students and a more general outlook. Whereas postgraduate students and junior researchers have quite different requirements in relation to the need, if not necessity, to plan a clinical trial as part of their own research activity. The CONSCIOUS II project is thus  complementary, follow-up and deepening. The project is implemented from 11/2021 to 10/2024.

The CONSCIOUS II project is supported by ECRIN, as an associate partner and reviewer of the prepared materials, or by its national nodes. Thus, existing both national and international expertise will be used. This time Masaryk University is the coordinator, the partners are all universities that participated in the preparation of the previous CONSCIOUS project – University of Pécs(Hungary), University College Cork(Ireland), University of Paris(France), Nova University Lisbon(Portugal) – and the new partner is University of Szeged(Hungary).

In the project, e-learning materials will be developed in international collaboration, focusing on practical aspects of planning and organising clinical trials, complemented by several chapters on interdisciplinary skills.

Topics of e-learning lessons:

Study Life Cycle
(Lifecycle of the Trial)
Clinical study methodology
(Trial methodology)
Clinical trial management
(Trial management)
Quality and regulatory issues, sources of regulatory information
(Quality and regulatory affairs and sources of regulatory information)
Pharmacovigilance and study medication
(Pharmacovigilance and study medication)
Datamanagement and statistical analysis
Data management and statistical analysis
Early Phase Studies
(Early phase trials)
Specifics of paediatric clinical trials
(Paediatric clinical trials)
Specifics of medical devices
(Medical Devices)
Chapters within the interdisciplinary curriculum:

Team leadership, networking in clinical research
(Leadership, team management and networking skills in research)
Publishing results, open research
(Scientific Publishing and open Reserach)
Teaching skills, innovative teaching methods in the education of health professionals
(Teaching the teachers: innovative pedagogical methods in health education)

* All 12 e-learning lessons will be published and made available free of charge on the learning platform, which will allow the enrichment of the materials with interactive and application elements. The summary content of the individual chapters can be found on the project website.

The project is also planning to pilot international lectures – one lecturer will give lectures to students from different universities and countries. In this way we want to deepen the cooperation between universities and students. The pilot class will run from 9 January 2024 to 2 April 2024 online, always from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm. You must pre-register to gain access – registration opened in September 2023 and will run until the end of November 2023 .

The link for registration can be found on the CONSCIOUS II website or directly here.

The pilot teaching will take place online from January 9, 2024, to April 2, 2024, always from 18.00 to 19.30 (CET). To gain access, you must register in advance – registration will open in September and run until the end of November, and the link to register will be possible to find on the CONSCIOUS II website from September. The schedule for the pilot, the topics of each lesson, and further information can be found here. A more detailed summary of the content of each lesson can be found here.

You can earn a certificate for attending more than 60% of the online sessions to demonstrate the deepening and broadening of your knowledge and skills in clinical trials.
