We are

LRI CZECRIN

We connect top institutions, support academic clinical research, and bring patient-centered medicine to life. We are an independent, integrated national clinical research infrastructure that provides coordinated support for academic and contract clinical research across the country.

CZECRIN - Czech Clinical Research Infrastructure Network

Establishment and Financing

CZECRIN is a large research infrastructure, established by a decision of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), which also funds it from the special-purpose support for large research infrastructures

The decision on the establishment of the research infrastructure was signed on 21 March 2014, based on the cooperation between Masaryk University (MU; host institution) and St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno (FNUSA; partner institution) with the aim of creating a nationwide scientific network of partners for conducting non-commercial clinical research and clinical trials at national and international level.

For the years 2020 – 2022, the large research infrastructure project has been granted a financial subsidy from the Ministry of Education and Science (LM2018128).

Legal status and Role of MU

Similarly to other clinical research infrastructures within ECRIN-ERIC, LRI CZECRIN does not have the status of a legal entity. The legal entity and host institution of CZECRIN is Masaryk University (MU), one of the leading Central European scientific institutions.

The research infrastructures operated by MU are an important pillar of the research and innovation systems in the Czech Republic. Their importance is underlined by their participation in 16 research infrastructures listed in the Czech National Roadmap for Large RDI Infrastructures.

Nine of these projects are also part of research infrastructures of pan-European interest included in the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Eight research infrastructures are in the field of health and nutrition.

Role of FNUSA

FNUSA – the founding partner – is a university hospital with excellent clinical research capabilities concentrated in the International Center for Clinical Trials (ICRC). Its support in the areas of clinical site network coordination, technical and administrative support is an essential part of CZECRIN.

Current Form and Mission

Currently, the large research infrastructure CZECRIN is a national and fully functional research infrastructure supporting and implementing academic clinical research in the Czech Republic. It provides unique expertise, research, development, production and implementation capabilities in the medical sciences. CZECRIN supports national and international collaboration in clinical research for the benefit of patients, citizens and healthcare. All of this is encompassed by CZECRIN’s new comprehensive strategy with a vision characterized by the slogan: “…towards patient-oriented medicine.”

Together, we’re moving medicine forward

Our mission

We help hospital and university researchers conduct clinical trials that lead to improved patient care.

Science and Research

All of our activities are directed towards the support and development of non-commercial clinical trials generating independent evidence-based data that lead to the development of new therapies or products, optimization of drug use and individual dosing in the standard treatment algorithm, personalized drug development and individualized patient treatment; proposals for updating clinical best practices and new diagnostic options.

Education

We are a research infrastructure that is educating the next generation of technically and generally equipped graduates and scientists for the ever more rapidly changing demands and needs of future decades, and thus contributing to the popularisation and deeper understanding of the role of biomedical research by the general public.

Services

The results of research and development are both publishing activities and non-publishing – applied results. All activities are directed towards the support and development of non-commercial clinical trials generating independent evidence-based data leading to the development of new therapies or products, optimization of drug use and individual dosing in standard treatment algorithms, personalized drug development and individual patient treatment; proposals for updating clinical best practices and new diagnostic options.
