The Ministry of Health unveiled the first National Strategy for Clinical Trials. CZECRIN also contributed to its development.

On July 15, 2026, the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic presented the first National Strategy for Clinical Trials of Human Medicinal Products in the Czech Republic 2035. The document establishes a long-term framework for the development of clinical research, the improvement of conditions for conducting clinical trials, and the expansion of patient access to innovative treatments. The Czech National Network for the Support of Clinical Research (CZECRIN) also contributed to its development.

Health Minister Adam Vojtěch presented the strategy at a press conference in Prague alongside representatives of the participating partners. It was developed in collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Health, the State Institute for Drug Control, CZECRIN, the Association of the Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry, the Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO-CZ), the Czech Agency for Health Research, healthcare providers, professional societies, patient organizations, and other members of the Ministry of Health’s Working Group on Clinical Trials.

Through clinical trials, patients can gain access to innovative treatments even before they are routinely introduced into clinical practice. They help strengthen the professional capacity of healthcare facilities and bring investment in science, research, and healthcare to the Czech Republic. The strategy also aims to strengthen the Czech Republic’s position among European leaders in clinical research.

Doc. MUDr. Regina Demlová, Ph.D., director of the CZECRIN national research infrastructure—which is part of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University—highlighted the importance of academic clinical trials during the presentation of the strategy. The number of such trials conducted in the Czech Republic remains lower than what the potential of domestic research institutions would suggest. According to her, the strategy represents an important step toward systematically supporting these trials, developing professional capacities, and strengthening international cooperation among Czech research centers.

The strategy’s main priorities include further digitization of processes, standardization of contractual procedures, support for academic clinical trials, development of professional capacity, strengthening of international cooperation, and systematic communication with patients, healthcare professionals, and international partners.

One of the first concrete outcomes is the launch of a new national web portal on clinical trials, which CZECRIN is also helping to develop. The portal brings together verified and easy-to-understand information in one place for patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, and sponsors of clinical trials. Its launch is scheduled for the summer of 2026.
