VIII National Clinical Trials Day: development of clinical trials in the Czech Republic

Development of clinical trials in the Czech Republic

On Wednesday 29 May 2025, the 8th National Clinical Trials Day took place in the representative premises of the Kaiserstein Palace in Prague. The event organized by the Czech National Clinical Trials Network CZECRIN traditionally focuses on clinical trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of new drugs and therapeutic methods. The conference is held under the auspices of the Minister of Health Prof. Vlastimil Válek, M.D., MBA, EBIR and is intended for invited guests only.

The main topic of this year’s event was the strategy of further development of clinical trials in the Czech Republic, current challenges faced by research teams and medical institutions, and possible directions for future direction. Following on from previous editions, the issues of accessibility of innovative treatments for patients, the role of regulatory authorities and research funding opportunities in the international context were also addressed.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health, the State Institute for Drug Control, academia, medical institutions and industrial partners presented themselves during the expert programme. Discussions included the national strategy for supporting clinical trials, the importance of study teams and the key role of coordinators to ensure the smooth running of trials in practice.

As a research infrastructure, CZECRIN has long strived to cultivate the environment for clinical research in the Czech Republic. Through educational activities, methodological support and cooperation with hospitals, it strengthens the capacity to conduct studies and thus contributes to increasing the availability of modern treatments for Czech patients.

VIII. National Clinical Trials Day was not only a place for sharing experiences and good practices, but above all an impulse for further development of quality and accessible clinical research in the Czech Republic.

From the press release

Every year, thousands of patients in the Czech Republic participate in clinical trials that give them the chance to access innovative medicines before they are approved for routine use. For many of them, participation in a trial means the hope of improving their health when standard treatment options have been exhausted. But clinical research does not only help patients – it supports the development of science and medicine in the Czech Republic, improves the quality of care and brings significant economic benefits. Today, the Ministry of Health, together with expert partners, presented the main building blocks of the forthcoming National Strategy for Clinical Trials of Medicinal Products, which aims to improve conditions for research and at the same time strengthen the availability of state-of-the-art treatments for patients .”
