PRISM Call for International Pediatric Clinical Trials Initiated by Researchers

The Pediatric Clinical Research Infrastructure Service Model (PRISM) is a European consortium whose goal is to strengthen the conduct of international pediatric research by providing infrastructure and expert support for investigator-initiated academic studies.

The PRISM project is funded by the Horizon Europe program (GA101292607). Through a two-stage selection process, it selects pilot pediatric clinical trials and provides comprehensive support—from design through implementation—for international academic studies conducted in 3 to 6 countries across Europe and Canada.

Shortlisted projects receive targeted support from the PRISM consortium in preparing the study design and planning the complete application.

Following a final evaluation, selected projects will receive funding to cover the costs associated with conducting and coordinating the study, as well as services for managing the international clinical trial provided by the PRISM consortium.

Key Information

  • Eligible studies: pragmatic, researcher-initiated randomized controlled clinical trials comparing or optimizing healthcare strategies (therapeutic, diagnostic, or preventive interventions) and prospective observational cohort studies.
  • Study population: children from birth to 18 years of age. All areas of pediatric diseases may be included, with the exception of oncology and rare diseases.
  • Participant recruitment: in 3 to 6 countries in Europe (EU, Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom) and Canada, at a maximum of 15 centers (with the exception of cluster-randomized controlled trials).
  • Maximum study duration: 30 months from study initiation to the final center visit.
  • Required budget: 1–2 million EUR for interventional studies or up to 1 million EUR for observational studies, including the mandatory ECRIN Coordinated Service Package.
  • The study must have a single experienced non-commercial sponsor, or a sponsor representative where required.
