How to overcome barriers in vaccine research?

🌍 How to overcome barriers in vaccine research? 💉

Underrepresentation among participants in clinical trials testing vaccines remains a major challenge. This is particularly true for vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. 🧪 In CZECRIN in collaboration with VACCELERATE_EU network, we have identified the main barriers that prevent these groups from engaging in clinical research and provide suggestions on how to overcome them.

🔍 What did we find?
The most under-represented groups: ethnic minorities (76.5%), homeless people (70.6%), undocumented workers and refugees (64.7%).
The biggest barriers: low health literacy, lack of trust in vaccination and low willingness to participate in clinical trials.

🎯 What do we recommend?
Focus educational activities on priority groups such as ethnic minorities, migrants and immigrants.

Develop tailored strategies to promote engagement with these groups to increase their confidence and understanding of the importance of clinical trials.

This study is an important step towards ensuring fairer access to clinical trials testing more than just vaccines across European countries. 💡
