All medical products at various phases of the drug life cycle must be manufactured according to very strict conditions and are thoroughly controlled before drug administration to a human. The practice is called Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and represents a consumer protection system in pharmaceutical production that minimizes the risk of the patient reaching a poor-quality drug or inappropriate for the intended use. This also applies to products used in clinical trials.
