Disease oriented network
CZECRIN | EPI
A Disease oriented network linking clinical sites, researchers and experts in epileptology and neuroscience. Its aim is to support academic clinical research aimed at improving the diagnosis, treatment and long-term care of patients with rare and complex forms of epilepsy, thereby contributing to improving the quality and availability of specialised care in the Czech Republic through clinical research.
Mission CZECRIN | EPI
The aim of CZECRIN | EPI is to support clinical and translational research in rare and complex forms of epilepsy with an emphasis on improving diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for patients. The network connects highly specialised centres and research teams that share expertise in epileptology, genetics, neuroscience and clinical research, and creates an environment for the implementation of academic studies and international projects.
CZECRIN | EPI promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, the use of real clinical data and patient involvement in research to ensure that scientific knowledge has a direct impact on clinical practice.
Vision CZECRIN | EPI
- To create and develop a national network of specialised centres focused on rare and complex epilepsies, supporting collaboration between clinical and research teams across the Czech Republic.
- Link epileptology centres with research institutions, genetic laboratories and European reference networks to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge sharing and the use of data for clinical research.
- To conduct academic clinical trials and research projects of high scientific quality that contribute to improving the diagnosis, treatment and long-term care of patients with rare forms of epilepsy.
- Actively participate in international initiatives and consortia (e.g. ERN EpiCARE, SPIDER, ERDRi), which connect expert centres and enable the transfer of state-of-the-art scientific knowledge into clinical practice in the Czech Republic.
- To strengthen the link between clinical research and patient needs and to contribute to the implementation of proven scientific knowledge into everyday epileptology care.
CZECRIN | EPI is a Disease Oriented Network
CZECRIN | EPI is a disease oriented network linking clinical and research centres focused on rare and complex forms of epilepsy. Its aim is to support the creation, implementation and development of academic clinical trials aimed at understanding, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases – from the design of the research protocol to the implementation of research results into clinical practice.
The network was established as a joint initiative of the St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno and the University Hospital in Motol, which are also national reference centres for rare and complex epilepsies and members of the European Reference Network ERN EpiCARE.
Both centres have long been among the leading epilepsy care centres in the Czech Republic and are active members of the Czech League Against Epilepsy (CLPE).
CZECRIN | EPI responds to the need for systematic research development in the field of rare epilepsy syndromes (CVSP) and aims to link clinical and translational medicine to accelerate the translation of scientific knowledge into everyday patient care. The network collaborates with national and European registries such as ERN EpiCARE and SYPOVO, and actively communicates with the European consortia ERDRi and SPIDER, contributing to international data sharing and standardisation of care.
In addition to research activities, CZECRIN | EPI also participates in awareness and community initiatives such as Purple Day or EpicRun, which help to raise awareness of epilepsy and connect the professional and lay public.
